Inspiring a love of reading takes new heights with Over The Edge. On August 31, participants will rappel 11 stories down the side of the Marriott City Center. Participants each raise $1,000 or more for The DeGood Foundation to get more books into the hands of kids.

About the Event
Over The Edge is a unique and thrilling way for you and your company, friends, or family to support The DeGood Foundation and our work with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in Hampton Roads. If you crave adventure and want to get free books into the hands of local kids, then Over The Edge is for you!
Please join The DeGood Foundation on August 31st, 2024 when participants will be given the opportunity to rappel 150 feet down Marriott City Center’s 11-story building in Newport News, overlooking the iconic City Center fountains.
61% of children in Hampton Roads do not enter Kindergarten with proper literacy skills. Imagine the fear and anxiety these children face every day while at school or learning, because they don’t have the proper literacy foundations. You can step up and stand beside them in a show of solidarity by going Over The Edge!
Participants commit to raising a minimum of $1,000 by August 24th, 2024 to join us on this adventure. Invite your friends, family, and coworkers to help you raise the funds to go Over The Edge! Money raised will go towards providing free books to children each month through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and help us ensure that NO CHILD sits on a waiting list.
To go Over The Edge you will need to register, pay a $50 registration fee to hold your spot, then start fundraising! You will need to raise a total of $1,000 to go Over The Edge. However, there’s no reason to stop there! There are prizes and perks for those who raise more than $1,000 to give even MORE free books to kids!

Big Rappel. Bigger Impact.
Your rappel, or donation to support a rappeller, is much bigger than just rappelling.
If you succeed at your $1,000 fundraising goal, you will make it possible for 75 children to get free books every month for a whole year. That’s 900 books you will make happen.
